SSF Erosion Control Blankets

Seven Springs Farms began producting straw erosion control blankets January 2021. Each blanket we produce uses straw grown on our farm. This allows us to ensure the highest quality product. All straw blankets are photodegradable and are available for purchase locally. A standard mat is 8' x 112.5' and covers 100 sq yards.

Why Choose SSF Erosion Control Blankets?

We use straw harvested with stripper heads that take only the grain and leave the whole shaft of wheat standing. This allows us to cut the straw to the longest possible length. Straw length is fundamental to the quality of an erosion control blanket. Draper heads are by far the most common type of head used to harvest wheat. Draper heads take the shaft along with the grain of the wheat and run it through the whole combine breaking it into short pieces. Its short length causes it to fall through the netting or land between the stitching needles of the machine. This results in many strands of straw not actually being attached to the netting. Longer straw ensures each piece is stitched to the netting at multiple points. The longer straw stays put during transportation and through installation, ensuring the best possible coverage for every inch. This is what makes our blankets superior to others on the market. 

Testing

Our blankets are made with 100% agricultural straw stitched with polypropylene thread, between two photodegradable polypropylene nets. They will degrade within 1-2 years. Our single net and double net blankets have undergone NTPEP testing.
